In the eight weeks I’ve been with CIM Enviro, I have experienced firsthand the sky-rocketing growth this Australian-founded company is undergoing. Over the last 24 months, CIM has seen 4x revenue growth, a team of 35 passionate and dedicated people onboarded, a 5x increase in square metres being managed by the ACE Platform and most recently, the opening of our first international office. In the five years CIM Enviro has been empowering large complex buildings to run at peak performance in Australia, CIM has delivered proven results and we’re excited to bring our passion and experience to the rest of the world.

As we continue to grow, I thought it would be interesting to take a look back at the environmental metrics we’ve delivered as we put sustainability at the fore.

“CIM Enviro enables proactive portfolio management, pinpointing operational inefficiencies within live building data, reduces energy consumption, therefore improving sustainability….which is one of the key drivers of why I set the company up”.

David Walsh

By unleashing and leveraging the power of existing building data, machine learning and automation, our data science team and our team of mechanical, mechatronic and electrical engineers analyse the ACE Platform’s historical and live building data to find actional insights and provide support and solutions to restore peak building performance.

CIM Enviro has delivered a cumulative saving of 29,293,141 kWhs of electrical energy across our entire client portfolio in Australia. Saving 30GWhs of electricity is equivalent to preventing the generation of 23,435 metric tonnes of the harmful greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, one of the primary causes of climate change.

This is a similar volume of CO2 emitted from:

  • 4,504 passenger vehicles driven for one year
  • 81,508,646 kilometres driven by an average passenger vehicle
  • 10,530 kg of coal burned
  • 2,540 homes’ energy use for one year
  • 2,705,113,90 smartphones charged
  • 49,116 barrels of oil consumed

Or put another way, if the CO2 was to be removed from the atmosphere (also known as carbon sequestering) by trees it would take 350,787 tree seedlings grown for 10 years or four and a half wind turbines running for a year.

Large properties – like major shopping centres, office buildings, hospitals and airports – are a very important part of the fabric of our society.   However, the built environment is responsible for 40% of the world’s energy consumption and approximately 40% of total global CO2 emissions. Considering this scale of energy consumption, I agree with the International Energy Agency (IEA) recommendation that energy efficiency should be regarded as the ‘very first’ fuel.

The demand-side energy reduction solutions CIM Enviro’s engineering team deliver always provide the quickest results for the lowest investment.

Of course, energy efficiency isn’t the only benefit customers achieve from CIM Enviro’s solution. There are many other benefits, including improving sustainability ratings and lengthening the lifespan of expensive equipment, not to mention improving contractor management. At a portfolio level, the benefits are amplified, with reduced costs multiplied and non-technical managers gaining visibility across entire portfolios, with insight and intelligence to drive more commercially focused operations and asset management.

As the General Manager of CIM Enviro’s EMEA team, I feel fantastic getting up for work every morning, knowing that the work the CIM Enviro team do every day with our clients not only saves money and improves tenant comfort in their buildings, but delivers real tangible results in our war on climate change.
